I Watch Too Much Television

08.30.08 | Comment?

I was just looking at the new fall lineup and realized that I watch too much television. Way too much. But I can't stop. Some of the shows are old favorites and some seems too compelling to miss. Here's my 2008-2009 must see list:

  • House, M.D. - Yeah, they take some liberties now and then with the specific symptoms, but half the fun is trying to figure out the diagnosis before House. And this season, we've got House losing Wilson on top of having lost the ducklings in season 3.
  • Bones - Last season was horribly truncated by the writers' strike, so the whole Gormagon story line was wrapped up hurriedly and unsatisfactorily. Still, it is a bit more interesting than the typical procedural.
  • Heroes - Moreso than any show other than maybe 24, this show suffered from the writers' strike. Season two was basically half a season. That said, even half a season was compelling and season three looks to be even better.
  • Lost - It's not coming back until January, but Lost is my biggest TV addiction and I'm already watching for hints and spoilers.
  • Dexter - The lovable serial killer is back at the end of September. The first two seasons were riveting, so season three makes the must list.
  • Scrubs - Yeah, Scrubs. No, it isn't high brow or series or mysterious or ground breaking, but I like it.
  • The Daily Show and The Colbert Report - I have to watch the news, of course.
  • Pushing Daisies - Something about this cute quirky little show pulls me in. That said, it is opposite Bones this fall and I don't have a DVR, so it might lose out (or I might have to call Comcast in the next week for an upgrade).
  • Fringe - From J.J. Abrams, so I have to at least check it out. And if J.J. is true to form, I'll be hooked from the first ten minutes, just like I was with Alias and Lost.
  • The Doll House - From Joss Whedon, so I have to at least check it out. And if Joss is true to form, I'll be hooked from the first episode, just like I was with Buffy and Angel.
  • True Blood - This one is a wild card. HBO used to be dependably solid. Then, all of sudden, they weren't. I still miss the days of Deadwood and Carnivale, but now the best they can muster is Big Love. True Blood is their chance to redeem themselves to me, but I am not sure they will succeed.

So that is my guilty pleasure list. I really show find a way to cut it down, but knowing me I won't. Gotta call Comcast now…
